Why is Fear Free Care Important?

Do you want your dogs and cats to live happy, healthy, full lives? Do you wish you knew how to make that happen for them? We all love our pets and want what’s best for them throughout their lives. But we aren’t always equipped with the right tools, information, education, or resources to truly fulfill on that goal. Take, for example, visits to your veterinary hospital. Why is it that for many of us and our pets, veterinary visits evoke feelings of fear, anxiety, and stress? What if a veterinary visit could be something you and your pet look forward to?

This is where Fear Free comes in. Our mission is to alleviate fear, anxiety, and stress in pets and educate and inspire the people who care for them. Fear Free focuses on both the physical and emotional well-being of your pets and aims to take the pet out of petrified. Your visit with us will be full of so many thoughtful details to alleviate fear, anxiety, and stress. You will see the layering of calming pheromones, calming music, warm towels, catnip, high reward treats, and staff that exhibit gentle handling and intrinsic knowledge of pet body language and behavior.

What Does It Mean to Us?

Everyone has been nervous about going to the doctor. However, unlike people, we can’t explain to our pets that going is what’s best for them when they get scared. That’s why Lone Mountain Veterinary Hospital is a Fear Free Certified Practice. Because you can’t tell your dog or cat not to be afraid, we show them they don’t have to be. The goal of Fear Free is to “take the pet out of petrified” by providing education for doctors and veterinary staff. Our staff will use the most gentle, stress-reducing methods possible when treating your pet. Additionally, they can offer guidance and tips to you on how to utilize those practices at home.

Benefits of a Fear Free Clinic

Fear Free certification is beneficial to everyone involved. Not only does it improve emotional well-being for pets, but it also reduces stress for owners, which increases your likelihood of bringing them in for regular care. Fear Free pets are also more likely to comply with doctors during exams, making the process safer for both patients and medical staff members.
